Unnamed post

Winter is setting in and you know what that means, right? Well, it means hot drinks and cute mittens...of which, I currently have neither. Must find cute drinks and hot mittens. You know what I mean.

Attended a seriously cool event last weekend at Junctionview. Did you guys know this place existed? Well, it was news to me and about the best news I've gotten since I heard about that new species of octopus we found. It's a bunch of artists' studios, so there was a lot of unique art, interesting people, and great things to buy with the money I don't have. There'll be more like it, so keep an eye out.

As for my holiday...well, it went as expected. Rode the 4-wheeler with my lil' bro, drank cheap beer, listened to my family rant about Obama being a socialist/terrorist. Good times. I also said a moving goodbye to the waistline I once had.

As my internship comes to a close here, I'm expecting some crazy nights out with the guys. I'll be sure to report on any embarrassing behavior, don't worry.

RACHEL, my partner in crime

I feel awful. In my last blog, I forgot to mention my fellow intern, my partner in crime, the peanut butter to my jelly: Rachel.

To make up for my embarrassing lack of consideration, I'd like you to get know Rachel a little better, so I'm forcing her to stop whatever important thing she's doing to indulge me in an interview. Finally, Rachel, the intern, will be demystified to the public. You're welcome, world.

Where were you born? -- "Pittsburgh."

What is your favorite movie of all time? -- [chooses not to answer this question...hmm....]

How do you feel about the Quidditch? -- "Incredibly jealous. I mean, I wanna play Quidditch in real life!"

If you could have one super power, what would it be and why? -- "Liz! I'm trying to work! What are you writing?"

What's your favorite thing? -- "Like of all time? Liz! Your questions are hard!"

And there you have it, neighbors: everything you've ever wanted to know. She has brains, she has beauty, she's an SBB intern...she's awesome.

The work never ends

After a refreshing weekend breathing mountain oxygen, I come back to complete chaos! That's what happens when the female influence leaves the other SBB counterparts to their own devices.

Kidding, guys! Things weren't in utter disarray but Wolf, Charles, and Alex are working their little tails off trying to get this Big Deal to come together. Happily for me, they are doing it gracefully and not using the poor interns as punching bags. I think Wolf has upped his pacing distance from the average 2 miles/day to 5 miles/day. We are now expecting the first Big Deal on Friday so hang in there! We're a-comin'! And we're still super jazzed. Oh, and still tell your friends, and still sign up here: www.bigdealcolumbus.com.

In more important news, there is a very badass event taking place this weekend. Imagine a place where there are rowdy gals, aggressively roller-skating at/with one another. Then, take this dream, inject it with MLB-approved steroids, blare thrash metal music, put a Santa hat on it, and then dress it in a Halloween costume. That's one high-powered, awesome dream, no? Well, guess what. That's right, folks; as always, the SBB is making your dreams come true! (hey, that gives me an idea for a song...it'll be perfect for a vacation montage...I'll get Hall & Oates to do it.)

This weekend, we'll all be heading out to the "Skatemare Before Christmas" with the Ohio Roller Girls. If you have not seen these girls, trust me, you must...and this is a great opportunity to do it. Get your tickets here and do it now because the event is likely to sell out: www.ohiorollergirls.com.

And as for the most important news of all: I just got a Blackberry. I officially no longer need to make personal human contact. Yes.

In the meantime, good luck trying to get "You Make My Dreams Come True" out of your head. Just try singing "It's a Small World After All" if you're desperate.

Until Thursday,

Au revoir!

Leaving on a jet plane

Today was just one of those days. We all have them. Fortunately, I work with a group of super understanding guys who let me take it easy today; thus, I am writing this in front of the TV, pyjamas on, tea in hand, at my home. Not to worry, you'll still get your update.

We have some awesomely exciting things happening soon: first off, our new website is THIS close to being done. Real close, if you didn't catch the reference. Spoiler alert: I've seen it and it's fabulous. It will allow you to do engage with your SBB card in ways that, perhaps, you have never dreamt of. And that's everyone's goal, right? Look for that this weekend or sometime next week! Also, don't hesitate to let us know if you'd like to see specific things (apart from a convenient link to our blog, of course) on it. We're looking to get you up-to-date 411 on the whereabouts of all of our foodie carts. Imagine having all of that information in one place. Woohoo!

Also, a local favorite is taking place this weekend: THE CLAMPDOWN! I'm not just promoting this because it is the brain-child of our very own Charles (or Charlie, as I so affectionately have dubbed him) or because it takes place at the Ravari Room, one of our member businesses. I'm simply promoting it because of its high score on the Awesomeness Richter Scale. Let's be honest...dancing like a fool is ALWAYS fun. So go do that.

Lastly, as mentioned in my previous blog, THE BIG DEAL is starting Monday. Guaranteed awesomeness to ensue. In fact, it's probably gonna blow your mind. Just sayin'.

As for me, I'm going away...I'll tell you where; someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talkin' about a little place called Aspen. Well, not Aspen, but Denver.

Yes, indeed, I'm following the tracks of the greats who have gone before me: John Denver, Harry, and Lloyd. I'm going to Denver. I realize I'm sacrificing my time at Clampdown, but it seems like a fair trade-off. I'll figuratively and electronically see you upon my return!

Have a fantastic weekend!

In a faraway land called the Sandbox...

Just another day in paradise/my internship: frequenting cool, local bars, engaging with innovative Columbus minds, getting sand in my britches...

I'm only half-kidding about the latter part.

Working at the Sandbox with the SBB guys has been awesome, due in part to the aforementioned activities, but mostly thanks to the actual sandbox they have here. What's great about this sandbox is the neighbors' stray cats don't use it as a litter box, unlike the one I remember from my childhood, thus making me want to play for hours. Because that familiar, inanimate object from our adolescence (or early adulthood, depending) shouldn't consume my blog, I'll focus on some other things. And transition.

We watched The Hurt Locker today in my Comparative Military Structure class. Talk about a buzz kill! But I can always count on the bright open space of the Sandbox and the quirky guys I work with to improve my mood, if even only a little. What could possibly make me feel better after The Hurt Locker, you ask? Well, cupcakes usually do but that ship sailed yesterday with Cupcake Combat at the Kroger in German Village. So, I settled on the next best thing:

THE BIG DEAL!

After watching my colleagues spend endless hours negotiating and finding deals and pound gallons of Impero coffee, we are finally ready to launch our local version of significantly discounted coupon program next Monday, November 15. Now, being a firm believer in ridiculously good prices being emailed to me daily, I strongly support the Big Deal. I'm an insider here at the SBB and (SPOILER ALERT) prepare yourself for some awesome deals.

Like, have tissues handy.

Join the trend on Twitter #columbusbigdeal with suggestions, kudos, boos/hisses but definitely make sure you sign up and then...you know...use your coupons.

Tell your friends!

Locally yours,

Liz

(ps. I know I may have caused you some nostalgia with all that sandbox talk so, if necessary, give us a call and we'll give you some complimentary time in the sandbox. Yes, there are plastic pales and shovels.)
